VSA are a social care charity that support vulnerable individuals and their families in need of their services and support across the North East. Their four core groups include; Adults and the Community, Children and Families, Education and Learning and Carers Support. The charities mission is to ‘Provide the best of care to enable the best of lives; supporting individuals and communities to fulfil their potential.’
VSA have recently celebrated their 150th year running as a charity. Since being founded in 1870, they have provided social care for thousands of children and adults in the city of Aberdeen.
Part of VSA’s service is to provide food parcels to vulnerable families, couples and individuals across Aberdeen. During the Covid-19 pandemic, VSA have seen a soar in the demand for their services including food aid.
During a national lockdown, Knight Property Group donated the cash sum of £5,000 to the charity VSA to help with the ongoing demand for food parcels in and around Aberdeen.
Jennifer Mitchell, Director of External Relations at VSA stated, “As a direct result of COVID-19 we have seen a soar in demand for our services this includes food aid. We have and are providing food parcels to vulnerable people which includes the elderly, young children and adults. We understand that a standard food package will not meet the dietary requirements and food preferences of the people we support, which is why we are taking a person-centred response to our food aid support. Through our Carers team we get to know and understand the people we are supporting to ensure full support for their entire wellbeing and take into consideration any special dietary or religious requirements when providing food aid. Our team will then devise a shopping list of essential food items for the person they are supporting and our team of personal shoppers will purchase the items, disinfect and deliver to the people we are caring for on a weekly basis.”
VSA currently have three main appeals, Covid-19 appeal, Save Easter Anguston Farm and Changing Lives Campaign, if you would like to donate or find out more about the charity head to www.vsa.org.uk
