The Capitol office building in Union Street, Aberdeen, has been recognised as one of the best workplaces in Scotland.

It was crowned as the winner of the best commercial workplace category at the British Council for Offices’ (BCO) regional property sector awards in Glasgow yesterday.

The BCO awards recognise the highest quality developments in the UK and sets the standard for excellence in the regional and national office sector.

Judges said the Capitol, a joint-venture between Aberdeen-based Knight Property Group and M&G Real Estate, was “one of the finest examples of regeneration in action”.

They also said the described the refurbishment of the former cinema as a “masterclass in high-quality building restoration”.

And with two corporate occupiers – professional services firms PwC and Maclay Murray and Spens – already secured at the Capitol, the judges said the building was already delivering on its potential of housing 600-700 staff and helping to re-invigorate and re-energise part of Union Street.

BCO chief executive Richard Kauntze said: “The Capitol has provided an addition to the office market that Aberdeen can be proud of for many generations to come.”

Other Aberdeen buildings that were shortlisted for awards included Kingshill View AA+B, Statoil House and the H1 office refurbishment at Hill of Rubislaw.
